- Philip Sabatino - Memorial services were held Sunday afternoon in Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church for Philip Sabatino, 50, of Hegins who died in the mine accident at Porter Tunnel on Tuesday March 1. The Rev. Gary Koch, his pastor, officiated and arrangements were made by the Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View. Born in Hegins, June 13, 1926, he was a son of the late Dominic and Elizabeth DIGIACOMO Sabatino, and a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hegins, Valley View Fire Co., Hegins Fire co., Veteran of Foreign Wars, Hegins and Independent Miners & Association, Pottsville. Surviving are his wife the former Peal Dunkelberger, two daughters, Sharon wife of Elwood Erdman Jr. of Hegins, Gail wife of Glenn Deibert of Sacramento, three grandchildren, two brothers Nicholas of Atlas, Santino of Hegins RD2, seven sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Eby, Mrs. Herman Hentz, Mrs. Samuel Rebuck, all of Hegins, Mrs. Alma Hink of Lebanon, Mrs. Frank Frye of Carlisle, Mrs. Basquiline Clocco and Mrs. Angline Garcia of Atlas, also nieces and nephews.
