Willie Mae [Chatman] Winston was born January 2, 1944. She was the forth born of seven children born to Mary Katherine [Taylor] Chatman and the late Charlie Chatman, II. Willie Mae departed this earthly life on October 10, 2006. She is preceded in death by her father and two sisters, O'Delia B. Chatman and Barbara Jean [Chatman] Carter.

Willie Mae, "Wool" as she was affectionately known to those who loved her, was educated in the public school systems of Davidson County in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wool accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age.

On November 20, 1976, Wool was joined in holy matrimony with the late John E. Winston, II. To this union two children were born. A daughter, Diane M. Winston and a son, John E. Winston, III.

Wool was a kind and gentle person, who never had a harsh word to say about anyone. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was known for making telephone calls to her loved ones on a regular basis. The apple of her eye were her grandchildren. She was instrumental in the rearing of her granddaughter, Jauna M. Winston, and was a constant source of love and support for her great-grandchildren, William, Anxious, and MaKia. All those that were close to Wool, knew that by the many, many great sacrifices she made, she loved them more than she loved herself.

Wool is preceded in death by her father, Charlie Chatman, III; and two sisters, O'Delia B. Chatman and Barbara Jean [Chatman] Carter. Wool leaves behind to cherish her memory tow devoted children, a daughter, Diane M. Winston; and a son, John (Meredith) Winston, III of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Jauna Winston; Alexis, Arile, and Jace Winston, of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, William Ekadi, Jr., Anxious and Makia Winston; mother, Mary Katherine [Taylor] Chatman; sisters, Charlene [Chatman] Bentley, Ellen Chatman-Smith, and Margaret (Carl) [Chatman] Chambers; brother, Charles (Patricia) Chatman III; uncle, Willie "Junior" Buford; great aunt, Bessie Shields, Chicago, IL; a devoted and caring nephew, Stanley E. Chatman. A host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation Saturday, October 14, 2006 from 11 a.m. - 12 Noon, with funeral to follow at Gardner Memorial Chapel, 2302 Buchanan St.
