Lois C. Jones, a retried school teacher, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at her home.
Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Bader will officiate. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
Steed-Todd Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Mark Mitchell, John Hays, Porter Chambliss, Eric Chambliss, Michael Chambliss and Lonnie Leslie. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bruce Smitm, Harry Gray, Collie Rogers, Paul Kinard, Dick Sullinger, Fred McGinnis, Roy Franse, Vic Stout, Delman Farris, G.C. Ross, Jim McDaniel, Mike McDaniel and all nieces and nephews.
Jones was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Bowie, Texas. She married Richard S. Jones on Sept. 29, 1946.
She began her teaching career in 1944 at Clovis Jr. High (Marshall) where she taught for two years. In 1958 she began teaching at Clovis High School, where she taught speech and English until she retired in 1991. During her years at the high school she was a class sponsor and worked with the Student Council. She was Chairman of the Language Arts Department for Clovis Municipal Schools and head of the English Department at Clovis High School.
In May, 1992, she was inducted into the Educators Hall of Fame for the Southwest Region and in 1994 was inducted into the state hall of fame.
Jones was an active member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the New Mexico Education Association, the Clovis Education Association and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was also a member of First Methodist Church of Clovis. She was a member and past president of Delta Kappa and a past President of the of Chapter of AY of the PEO Sisterhood.
Survivors include two sons, Dick Jones of Santa Fe and Mark Jones of Tucson, Arizona; one daughter, Kathy Jones of Taos; one brother, J. W. Chambiss of Ojai, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
