All of these brothers had sons who were named John, James, Patrick, Hugh, etc. and it has been a long arduous quest to sort them out. I make no guarantees that my efforts are 100% accurate, but I have made valiant stab at it.
We find James' will in the Augusta County, Virginia courthouse where it was probated in 1754.
James Campbell was found in Augusta County along the James River. He was among the earliest settlers. He acquired 546 acres of land before 1746 that adjoined the land of John Cloyd. It appears to be well-watered land lying between the James River and Buffalo Creek.
He was married to Margaret Beard.
