RICHARD DEER born 9-11-1931 in Corpus Christi, TX died suddenly at Methodist Hospital 8-18-2007. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Beryl R. and Julia Deer; his brother, Harold Hayes Deer; sister, Beryl June Cates; and three nephews, David, John and Jim Cates. He leaves behind two nieces, Cheryl Hayes Pou and Cindy Cates Propst and his devoted friend of many years, Jerry Sanacora. Richard served his country during the Korean Conflict as a medic. Upon his return home he enrolled in college. He graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in History intending to pursue a career in teaching. His career path took a turn when he secured a position with First City National Bank. That position with First City was the beginning of a long and successful career with several banking institutions in Houston. Being the generous and responsible person he was; he helped raise his two nieces and three nephews. He always referred to them as his own children. He was affectionately known to his family and all their friends as "Unkie". Richard continued to look after his mother and sister until their deaths. Friends knew Richard as honest and trustworthy and over the years many of them sought his counsel or asked him to handle their business affairs. Richard enjoyed a good life. He loved a cocktail and a good meal; sometimes had a smart mouth and always a wicked sense of humor. Friends can say goodbye to Richard by joining the family for a graveside gathering on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, (281.497.2210) 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079.
