Abraham Lillard was the son of John and Sarah Campbell Lillard, and his family moved to what is now Polk County about 1835 and settled on Lillard Branch.

Abraham enlisted in the Tennessee Militia during the War of 1812 and received a pension for his service.

Researchers usually say Abraham was born in Culpepper, Virginia, moved to Cocke County, Tennessee, and married Jane Harrison 14 March 1816. They were parents of 14 children: Eliza married G. W. Harbison; Minerva married James Berry Taylor; John never married; Luther married Elizabeth Coffee; Harriett married James Smith; Jasper married Mary Maddox; Jane married William Grady; Abraham II married Sarah Clevenger, and 2nd Minerva Couch; Newton married Minerva Kanester; Sarah married William O'Neal; Daniel married Mary Russell; Nancy Married William Newt Green; Elizabeth; and an infant son who died November 1844.

Abraham's was the first signature on the petition to form Polk County and he was instrumental in its organization, serving as the first Trustee. He was often a foreman of the Grand Jury, Trustee of the Ocoee Academy, one of the School commissioners, and he and Jane were charter members of Old Ocoee Baptist Church.

At his passing he was age 82 yrs, 8 mos, 2 days.
