Originally born in Houston, TX, the daughter of Greek immigrant parents, she moved to Lake Charles in 1941 as a young bride when she married Steve J. Yianaridis (deceased.) The couple worked together side-by-side as owner/operators of two family restaurants beginning with the Palace Sandwich Shop downtown, (1936-1947), and the Colonial Inn on Broad Street (1950-1987). Together with her husband, and later as a widow, she served a multitude of customers "the greatest hamburgers and onion rings, anywhere!" Even Kenny Cotton, of Cotton's Hamburgers, learned his trade when he worked for "Mrs. Steve". She frequently referred to her customers as her friends and always greeted everyone with her beautiful smile. She was kind, generous, and caring to her last days. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her brother, James G. Picramenos, Aurora, CO; two children, Mary Yianaridis Wood and husband, Lynn H. Wood of Lafayette, LA and John S. Yianaridis and wife, Sylvia Hautala Yianaridis of Brunswick, GA. She had 5 grandchildren, Winston, Katherine, Clare, Synthia, and Buddy and 6 great grandchildren, one of which is her namesake.
Her service will be 10am, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Father Phillip Rogers will officiate. Visitation will begin Friday 5pm-7pm with The Trisagion Service at 6pm and resume Saturday 8am until service time. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
Special thanks to Father Phillip Rogers for his love and support and the team at Heart of Hospice, Lafayette, LA. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish that donations be made in her memory to Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Christian Church, 1237 Eraste Landry Rd., Lafayette, LA 70506
