Walter Groelle, age 92, formerly of 1610 Hamilton St., and 1460 Iris Dr., Manitowoc, died Wednesday, February 7, 1996, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 1996, at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Rev. Stephen Schuette will officiate with entombment at the Knollwood Mausoleum.
He was born October 24, 1903, in Newton, son of the late Fred and Emma Schmitz Groelle.
He attended schools in the Newton area.
Walter married Milda Jacob June 24, 1936, in Manitowoc. The couple farmed for many years and later he was employed at the Kelvinator Company. Walter was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, the Brotherhood, and a former member of the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the IAM Union.
Survivors include three grandchildren and their spouses, Allen and Karne Peckham, Deborah and Ken Irinaga, Timothy and Liz Rhode; a brother, Reynold Groelle, Manitowoc; a brother-in-law, Herbert Jacob; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Peckham, Green Bay; three great-grandchildren, Ginger and Angela Peckham, and Benjamin (B.J.) Irinaga; three sisters-in-law, Etta Schmille, Manitowoc, Viola Buss, Manitowoc, Ella Mae Jacob, Banning, Calif. Also surviving are David Buss, Barbara Engelbrecht, and Dennis Pasch who thought of him as a special grandpa. He is also survived by a special nephew and niece, Don and Bea Buss, who provided loving care to Walter during his late years, and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Milda.
Friends may call at the First Reformed United Church of Christ from noon Saturday, February 10, 1996, until the time of services at 1:30 p.m.
There will be no Friday evening visitation at the Jens Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Reformed United Church of Christ organ fund.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Wright Home, Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, who cared for Walter and also members of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, who provided assistance to Walter so he could attend church services and activities.
