John J. Gross, age 89, of 1412 N. Sixth St., Manitowoc, died on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
He was born on March 15, 1918, in Kansas, son of the late Fred and Mary (Leiker) Gross. John was a graduate of Washington High School, Two Rivers, class of 1936. He also attended Marquette University. John served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. On Sept. 1, 1941, he married Esther Ozga at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. John was the superintendent at Hydra Tool Company. He was a member of the Golden K, Eagles Club, and played semi-pro football for the Two Rivers Ramblers. John also coached football at St. Boniface School.

John was also preceded in death by one brother: Harry Gross; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Thomas and Clara Ozga; two brothers-in-law: Arnold and Allan Ozga; and two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Knutson and Dolores Rezba.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton. Concelebrating will be the Rev. Gerald Foley, with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 9 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Masses may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
or memorials to a charity of their choice.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
