Elizabeth A. Hargis was 85 years old when she passed away at the home where she resided with her son, Dillard at 121 East Poplar Street in Carterville, MO. She had been a resident of Carterville for 35 years prior to her death. According to her Missouri Death Certificate she died from complications of an intestinal obstruction.

She married John Jefferson Hargis on August 6, 1892 at Rolla, Phelps county, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1932.
She was buried in Park Cemetery next to her son Dillard on September 9, 1953 under the direction of Knell Mortuary in Carthage.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Andrew Byron Welch and Mary Ardelia (Barnes). She had an older brother, James Byrum and a twin sister, Sarah Almira. She also had eight siblings from Andrew's prior marriage to Elizabeth (Owen).

Elizabeth and John had four children: Virgie Myrtle, Harry Franklin, Emmett Leroy, and Dillard Howard. She was survived by her daughter, Mrs. Virgie Kennedy and son, Dillard H Hargis, both of Carterville. Bio by GrammyJan
