Lavern Ford, 73-years old, of Glenwood, GA, was found dead in her home by her neighbor, landlord and a police officer. After hearing a "commotion," her neighbor called her on the phone then contacted her landlord. A police officer forced open Ford's front door where he found a wire gate in the living room that kept two mixed-breed dogs from entering the living room. Police say blood on both of the dogs indicates that both took part in the woman's demise. After being sprayed with pepper spray, the smaller dog ran into the bathroom. The other dog ran into the kitchen and sat down at the victim's feet. The officer shot this dog after it lunged at him. Ford was found on the floor near some frozen dinners with the refrigerator door open. Officials said the dogs were well cared for and that food and water was available to them. Friends said the dogs had grown mean and had urged Ford to get rid of them.
