Enlisted as Private in Co. E, 99th Indiana Infantry, on August 13, 1862. Mustered out on June 5, 1865, at Washington, DC. He was aged 36 at enlistment. Member of the Hugh Wilson GAR Post #21 Caldwell Indiana.

DEATH OF SOLOMON ASH.
Solomon Ash, one of the old residents of Caldwell, died Friday, November 19, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. P. Jones in this city. Mr. Ash had reached the advanced age of 86 years. He was the father of Mrs. Jones. Death resulted from the breaking down incident to old age.

Solomon Ash was a native of Ohio, but has been a resident of Idaho for a number of years. He served during the Civil war as a member of die 99th Indiana volunteers, infantry. The funeral services were held Saturday from the Christian church, under the auspices of the Hugh Wilson Post, G.A.R. Rev. B. W. Rice delivered the funeral sermon.
