HERINGTON -- Alma Kracke, 97, Herington, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Enterprise Estates Nursing Center, Enterprise.
She was born June 11, 1907, in Rastede, Oldenburg, Germany, the daughter of Johann Georg and Johanne Helene Katherine (Schultze) Behrens. She moved to the United States with her parents as a child. She was reared in the Tampa community. She moved to the Shady Brook area in 1924.
She married William L. Kracke on Dec. 8, 1928, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage, Shady Brook. They lived on a farm west of Woodbine. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1976. She moved to Herington in 1979.
Mrs. Kracke was a homemaker. She also cleaned homes.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shady Brook, for 63 years.
Survivors include one son, Otto Kracke of Chapman; three daughters, Lenora Smith of Marion, Arlene Ingrum of Enterprise and Audrey Lardenois of Hope; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Behrens, Ernest Behrens, Frank Behrens and Otto Behrens; three sisters, Ella Schlesener, Agnes Pio and Frieda Bertha Behrens; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Graf officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Shady Brook.
