'Meeme Farmer, Lorfeld, Killed in Oats Field'

A retired town of Meeme farmer, Arthur W. Lorfeld, 64, was killed Thursday afternoon in a farm harvest accident. Mr. Lorfeld was driving a tractor on a farm he owns near the former Mineral Spring School along Highway 149. He was thrown from the tractor when it went into a depression in the field, and was run over by a mower with which he was cutting oats. A son-in-law, Milton Braun, who was working nearby, stopped the tractor. Mr. Lorfeld was believed killed instantly.

Born Aug. 10, 1902, in the town of Meeme, he was a son of the late David and Cecilia Lutze Lorfeld. He married Hertha Wippermann on June 23, 1928. He resided on the homestead farm., R.1, Newton, all his life. He attended Sheboygan Central High School and took a farm short course at the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of St. John's (sic) United Church of Christ, Spring Valley, where he served on the consistory for four years, and was treasurer of the former Meeme School District No. 2 for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a son Donald on the home farm; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Mary Ellen) Schnelle, Cleveland, Mrs. Ellen May Lorfeld, Manitowoc, Mrs. Melvin (Violette) Siefert, R. 1, Newton, and Mrs. Milton (Virginia) Braun, Sheboygan Falls; nine grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Francis Schultz, Neenah, Mrs. Cranston Heckman, and Mrs. Walter Berger, both of Newton. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley. Friends may call at the Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel at Cleveland after 3 p.m. Saturday and at Church from 11:30 a.m. until time of service Sunday. The Rev. Kenneth Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
