Joseph was born to Jean Louis Archambault and Marie Louise Chaput. He immigrated to South Bend, Indiana sometime in the late 1830s or early 1840s. He married Laura Josephine Deschamps Labadie on February 7, 1848 at Sacred Heart Church at Notre Dame, Indiana. They had five children. Joseph enlisted in Company E, Indiana 48th Infantry Regiment on December 5, 1861 as a Private during the Civil War. He was wounded during the war and by 1878 he was hospitalized at the U.S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Dayton, Ohio. He died in an insane asylum in Washington, D.C. He was interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery on December 5. Joseph was the brother of Marie Archambault (1816-1885)[106822429]. She married Francois Xavier Baudouin in St-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Quebec in 1850. They migrated to South Bend in the mid 1850s. They were the parents of Marie (Mary) Perminda Beaudouin [101807566] who married William Lafontaine [106583611] in 1867 and Louis Etier Hickey [101838369] in 1876. Joseph was also the uncle of John Archambeault [107483628]. There are numerous variations of how Archambault is spelled, especially after many of that clan immigrated to the States from Quebec.
