Wava was the second daughter of John W. and Jennie Evaline Oshel Hecox. She married John A. Dye on 20 December 1904 at Iola, Kansas. Following their marriage the couple moved to Haviland, Kansas where they farmed until 1919 when they moved to Tyrone, Oklahoma. In 1943, when wheat prices were $.25 per bushel, John decided to try his luck at racing horses. John and Wava had a very small trailer that they lived in as they moved several times a year following the races from Hot Springs, AR to Raton and Ruidoso, NM to Denver, CO, Phoenix, AZ, and Seattle, WA. When John died in Phoenix, AZ in 1955, Wava stayed there living in that little trailer until her death.

Wava was a charter member of the Tyrone Rebekah Lodge, serving as the first Noble Grand of the lodge. She was a member of the lodge for over forty years. She was a member of the Tyrone Methodist Church and was active in other community affairs while the family lived in the Tyrone community.
