Son of Henry Faulkner (locksmith) and Eliza Faulkner (nee Fletcher) of England. Married Mary 'Ellen' Meredith April 13, 1879 in Wolverhampton England.
James and his wife Ellen were two of 1,012 lives lost on of the 'Empress of Ireland', on the early morning of 29th May 1914. They had emigrated with most of their 10 children to London Ontario Canada, in 1907 or 1908. They were returning to Wolverhampton England to visit with two sons (Samuel, George who had not emigrated) when they perished in the sinking of the Empress of Ireland May 29, 1914 in the St.Lawrence River near Rimouski, Québec.

The transatlantic ocean liner sank in the St. Lawrence River after colliding with the Storstad (Norwegian coal ship) on its journey between Quebec City, Quebec, Canada to Liverpool, England.

One of their sons was to accompany them back but thankfully never did. The body of James Faulkner was not recovered and is buried at sea.
