"Pittsburg Shaken By Powder Blast --- A Thousand Kegs Exploded 3 Miles South --- Dozen or More May Have Been Killed and Plate Glass Worth Thousands Was Shattered By Force.

"Pittsburg, Dec. 13. --- About 1,000 kegs of powder blew up at the Atlas Powder company's plant, 3 miles south of here, shortly after 9 o'clock this morning. Henry [sic, William] Alliet [sic, Alliett], an employee, was killed outright, and Charles Lance, another workman, was probably fatally burned.

"The detonation rocked Pittsburg and surrounding towns. Thousands of dollars worth of plate glass were shattered by the explosion.

"First reports indicated that a dozen or more men had been killed, the explosion having destroyed telephone communication between Pittsburg and the powder plant. Ambulances and doctors were rushed to the scene. Hundreds of motor cars also started to the powder works and scores of them were ditched and stalled in the mud, a heavy rain having fallen during the night."

The Sun, Pittsburg, KS, Wednesday, December 15, 1920, Page: 3.

"Announce Funerals of Explosion Victims --- Funeral services for William Alliett and Charles Lance, the two young men who lost their lives in the explosion at the Atlas Powder plant, three miles south of Pittsburg yesterday morning, will be held today.

"The services for Alliett will be held at the Catholic church this morning at 10:30 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. J. A. Pompeney. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery.

"Funeral services for Lance will be held at the family residence one mile south of Kirkwood this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. H. O. Smith will conduct the services and interment will be made in Highland Park cemetery."

Henry [William] Alliet [Alliett] was the man killed outright. Charles Lance was the other victim whose death is expected at any time.

Doctors Rushed to Scene.
First reports to Pittsburg indicated that a dozen or more workmen had met death in the explosion. Ambulances and doctors were rushed to the scene.
