They had children: Ernest F. Hess; Lauretta "Dotty" Hess, Lois "Biggie" Hess; Ralph Hess; Dr. Carroll V. Hess; Helen Hess; Eva Hess; Rev. Robert W. Hess; Kenneth H. Hess; Hobart Hess; Joseph Hess; Roy L. "Cubby" Hess and Raymond W. Hess.

Herman O. Hess, 75, Waynesboro R. D. 3 died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday at his home.

He had been a semi-invalid for the past 27 years and was confined to bed for the past 16 years, afflicted with arthritis. Six weeks ago he suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the Waynesboro Hospital where he was confined for three weeks before being returned home.

He was born in Waynesboro, R. D. 4 a son of the late John W. and Emma Rouzer Hess. All of his married life was lived at Roadside where he farmed. He also operated a threshing rig and sawmill.

He had served two terms as a Washington Township Supervisor. He was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church.

He is survived by his widow, Iva W. Kipe Hess and these children; Mrs. Robert M. Scott, and Kenneth H. Hess, both of Waynesboro, R. D. 3; J. Hobart Hess, Knoxville, Tn; Mrs. Donald R. Rowe, Washington D. C. ; Joseph H. Hess, Hagerstown; Ralph O. Hess, Orchard Road; Dr. Carroll V. Hess, St. Paul, Mn; Mrs. Robert W. Hess, Woodville, Wis; Roy L. Hess, Pensacola, Fl. Mrs. Edwin Heintzelman, Kensington, Md. and Ernest F. Hess at home.

Also surviving are 35 grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, Joseph R. Hess, Zullinger; S. Allen Hess, Ringgold, Mrs. Guy Wiles, Waynesboro R. D. 4 and Mrs. Rhoda Diehrbert, Hagerstown, R. D. 5.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Herbert J. Hoover and the Rev. Leroy Walters. Burial will be in the Ringgold Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
