Thomas Bond was born the 5th of 12th mo 1781 in Surry Co., NC, a son of Samuel & Elizabeth (Beals) Bond. He grew up as a member of Westfield Friends Meeting in Surry County, and it was there that he married Mary Nation. The actual date of their marriage is unknown, but it was reported to the monthly meeting the 26th of 12th mo 1804. He and his family started west about 1813. Over the course of his remaining life, he was a member at three Friends meetings in Indiana: New Garden, Milford, and Duck Creek. He held positions of responsibility within the meeting, sometimes as trustee, other times as overseer. He and his wife were the parents of nine children: Amer, Betsy, Jesse, Thomas Jr., Hiram, Pleasant, Asenath, Phebe and Mary. His death occurred the 27th of 9th mo 1845.
