Dr. Liborio Marty, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, longtime resident of Medina, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012. Liborio was born July, 6th 1924 in Santa Cruz, Zambales, Philippines to the late Dionisio and Elvira Marty. He is the last survivor of 8 brothers and 3 sisters. He graduated from The University of Santo Thomas Medical School in Manila, Philippines. He received his medical degree with a specialization in Anesthesia. In 1954, Liborio came to the USA, and met his wife Madeline at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. The two eventually settled in Medina, Ohio. They were married for 54 years. Dr. Liborio Marty was the first Anesthesiologist in Medina County. He practiced medicine at the Medina Community Hospital. He was self employed, owning the Medina Anesthesia Associates Company. He helped start the pulmonary department at Medina Hospital and was Chief of Staff of the Medina Hospital for one term. He pioneered bringing Acupuncture to northeast Ohio, starting his own pain management clinic in Medina. He helped many chronically ill patients, until the age of 81. Liborio founded the Medina Medical Mission. He dedicated his spare time to doing all he could for his home town of Santa Cruz. He gathered donations from many area hospitals, schools, businesses, and local organizations, and personally helped fund their delivery. His efforts helped build a technical school and hospital. He led several teams of Medina Volunteers, (doctors, nurses, teachers, etc.) to Santa Cruz, where they performed a variety of free services that truly helped the community. He was a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and had several other passions in life which included: farming, wine making, singing, and dancing, Liborio was the loving father of Daniel (Dawn) of Lodi, Leonard (Anna) of Toledo, Benjamin (Sue) of Avon Lake and Julia (Chris) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; dear grandfather of Dominick, Dante, Lila, Ryan, and Graham. Family will receive friends Friday, July 13, 2012 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and July 14 from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 North Court Street, Medina, Ohio 44256. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Saturday, July 14th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 East Washington Street, Medina, Ohio. Fr. Thomas Stock will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Dr. Liborio Marty account with any First Merit Bank Branch. All funds received will be forwarded to continue his efforts in the Philippines.
