Daniel F. Spellman was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Second World War, he moved to Salina in the late 1940s, where he worked as a patrol officer and then detective for the Salina Police Department. He was later employed by Gibson's Discount Stores and Beech Aircraft. He died Sept. 12, 1997, in Salina, and was survived by his second wife, Shirlene, two daughters, three step-daughters and a step-son. The Veterans of Foreign Wars provided military rites for his funeral.
