GREENLAND, N.H. - Lewis "Frank" Thurston Jr., 68, died March 21, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Middletown Springs, Vt., son of Thurston F. and Elva (Greene) Lewis Sr.

He attended school in Middletown Springs.

Mr. Thurston enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at 18, and made it his career for 20 years. His tours of duty included Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement from the Air Force he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a planner/estimator for more than 15 years.

He was a former member of the Greenland Volunteer Fire Department and the Piscataqua Fish and Game Club where he taught hunter's safety courses. He also was a member of the Amvets.

He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years of Greenland; three daughters, Marie L. Hall of Newmarket, Lee Ann M. Slattery of Saylorsburg, Pa., and Julie E. Henson of Center Strafford; four grandchildren; a brother, Albert Lewis of Poultney, Vt.; a sister, Dorothy Parrin of Stoughton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Lewis; and a sister, Alice Lewis McMorrow.

Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. immediately following the calling hours. Burial will be held in Riverview Cemetery in South Royalton, Vt., at a later date.
