Velvie "Sally" Barber, age 96, of Nixa, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013. She was born November 16, 1916, in the Tory Community near Highlandville, the daughter of Robert and Elsie (Parks) Maples. On July 16, 1936, she and Chester Barber were united in marriage. Sally lived in Christian County throughout her life. Saved at an early age, Sally most recently attended Calvary Bible Church. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking and baking for family gatherings. Everyone looked forward to her raisin pies. Even into her 90's, Sally was watched by family and friends as she pursued her favorite chore, mowing her yard with her riding mower. Survivors include: Her daughter and son-in-law, Saundra and Garen McGinnis, Nixa; a grandson, Troy McGinnis, Nixa; a grandson-in-law, Dwayne Barton, Nixa; a great-grandson Joseph Barton; a niece, Pauline Pope; a nephew Bob Maples; cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, in 1986, a granddaughter, Tracey McGinnis Barton in 2005, and a brother, Verl "Dick" Maples . A special thank you is extended to Pauline and others who gave Sally care and comfort during her last days. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, April 25, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Tommy Maples and Rev. Joe Fahl officiating. Burial will follow in McConnell Cemetery. Friends are invited to stop by the funeral home from 2:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
