Clara Belle Eversole married William Manon Cornett on 13 Oct 1903 in Perry County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Joseph Castle & Susan Combs Eversole.

Clara was born in 1883 during the French-Eversole Feud in Eastern Kentucky. Her father, Joseph Castle Eversole, a lawyer, activist and Sheriff, was assassinated in 1888 when she was 5. He was the leader of the Eversole side of the French-Eversole Feud.

As a result of her father's murder, her mother (Susan Combs) raised Clara and her brothers while the Feud still raged. Clara's grandfather, Judge Josiah Henry Combs of Hazard, Ky (Susan Combs' father) also helped to raise her but he also was murdered at the end of the Feud.

During the Feud, her brothers were forced to arm themselves. One of the attached pictures is of Clara, her mother, Susan Combs, and her two oldest Eversole Brothers.

Clara graduated from Hazard High around 1900.

Clara (also called 'Pet' when she was younger) married William Manon Cornett in 1903 and had three children; Juanita Nell Cornett (my grandmother), Joseph Cornett and Claribel Cornett.

Between 1912 and 1915 she lived in Washington, DC when her husband who was the private secretary/chief of staff to US Congressman J. W. Langley of Kentucky.

Clara and Manon returned to Hazard, Perry County, Kentucky in 1915 and remained their until 1920 when her husband was appointed Deputy Insurance Commissioner of the State of Kentucky.

In 1924 that post ended and Clara and Manon moved to Tampa, Florida. By that time, her two oldest children had graduated from high school in Frankfort, Kentucky. Her youngest, Claribel, graduated from Tampa High in 1925.

Her husband was attacked by mobsters while in Florida and they returned the Hazard. In 1939, she moved with her daughter, Claribel to Lexington, Kentucky. Her husband was moved to a sanitarium.

She remained in Lexington, living with Claribel until her death in 1967.

She is buried next to her husband, William Manon Cornett in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery as are her daughters (Juanita and Claribel) and their families.

Clara was well known as a seamstress and carried on a family tradition, making quilts.
