After the death of James, his widow Mary continued to live in Vicksburg until the 1850s, when she moved to Brunswick Plantation, in Issaquena County, Mississippi to live with her son, Alexander Mosby Gwin. Mary died at Brunswick Planatation on June 22, 1858.
