Nellie was born in County Tipperary along the banks of the Suir River. Her father died shortly after her birth and the family (her mother and six siblings) moved to the USA for a better life. They settled in Delphi, Indiana where her mother had a brother already there. Later the family moved to Chicago where three of her brothers worked on the railroads. She met her husband later in life and they had one child, Leo.
Nellie and her husband died the same week.
