Melvina Payne Jeffs, 83, of Provo, died January 17, 1992, in the Orem Care Center.
She was born January 20, 1908, a daughter of Edward William and Lucy Alice Farr Payne in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico. She married Alvin Wooley Jeffs in Farmington, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. She served 25 years as ward librarian in the Provo 19th Ward. She served on the Utah Stake Primary board, the Mutual board, and held various other leadership positions as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She obtained a pilots license and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, A. Dean Jeffs of Orem, M. Dayle Jeffs of Provo, one daughter, Mrs. Bernie (Vee Ann) Mickelson of Orem, twenty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, Lavon E. Payne of Benjamin, LaRue Payne of Yreka, Calif., Albert L. Payne of Provo, Mrs. Fenton (Bessie) Taylor of Thatcher, Arizona, Mrs. George (Minnie) Ashby of St. George, Mrs. Jerald G. (Edith) Rowan of Provo. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Jeffs, four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 21, 1992, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State in Orem. Friends may call Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and also Tuesday from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
