SOUTH SIOUX CITY | Boyd Willmer Davenport, 88, of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at a Sioux City care center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial with military graveside services will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.

Boyd was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Tripp, S.D., the son of Andron and Bertha (Lappine) Davenport. The family moved to South Sioux City, where Boyd attended and graduated high school.

Boyd married Betty Virginia "Ginger" Parmelee on July 16, 1950, and to this union six children were born. Boyd later married Norma (Baker) Monk on June 10, 1972. Norma passed away on June 2, 2001.

Boyd enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean conflict, serving on the USS Worcestar and the USS New Jersey. After returning from the war he took specialized training in auto body repair and owned and operated A & B Auto Body which he ran for many years. Boyd was known for his craftsmanship and pride he took in his auto body repair business.

He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and old westerns. Boyd was a member of American Legion Post No. 307 in South Sioux City.

Survivors include his six children, Dennis (Gini) Davenport, Elaine (Don) Skrdlant and Jeff Davenport, all of South Sioux City, Linda (Charles) Kennedy and Tim (Elisa) Davenport, all of Sioux City, and Mark (Jennifer) Davenport of Richardson, Texas; four stepchildren, Jimmy (Traci) Monk of South Sioux City, Gary Monk of Newcastle, Neb., Michael (Connie) Monk of Lincoln, Neb., and Debra VanDiemen of Sioux City; a special friend, Judy Vandenberg of South Sioux City; a sister, Hazel Cain of Oregon; 10 grandchildren, Charly, Lindsey, Drew, Michael, Morgan, Jaycob, Torianna, Anesa, Hanna and Bryce; nine stepgrandchildren, Jennifer and John Monk, Alan and Ashley VanDiemen, Adam and Amanda Monk, Alyssa, Austin and Alex Monk; three great-grandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Norma; five sisters, Lenora Shannon, Gladys Sordrager, Florence Faust, Mildred Schmid and Janice Collins; and a brother, Loren Davenport.
