Obituary
Ruth A. Hankla Alexander, 94, of Largo, Florida, died Wednesday April 17, 2013. She was the daughter of James Jefferson Bozarth and Bessie L. Clements Bozarth. She was born at Arapaho, Oklahoma, on September 27, 1918, and was raised on a farm northwest of Arapaho. Ruth graduated as the Valedictorian from the Arapaho High School, and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts Degree. It was during her first year at college she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She and James R. Hankla were united in marriage November 22, 1944. To this union, were born three children: Jesse Royal Hankla, James Waide Hankla (spouse, Wanda), and Bettie Ruth Hankla Tune (spouse, Tim.) After a long bout with cancer, Mr. Hankla departed this life on August 27, 1984. Their home was at Geary, Oklahoma, where Mr. Hankla was the Geary Postmaster and Mrs. Hankla was a teacher in the Geary Public Schools.
From 1949 through the summer of 1968, Mrs. Hankla took time out from teaching to care for her husband's aging parents and to raise her family. She sponsored Cub Scouts for five years and Blue Birds for two years. Mrs. Hankla spent 22 years as a teacher in the secondary school system in Oklahoma, the first four years in Arnett, Oklahoma and the remaining 18 years in Geary, Oklahoma. Ruth was honored by being chosen Blaine County, Oklahoma Teacher of the Year in 1977. After retirement, Ruth served as a member of the Geary Board of Education. She was a long-time member of the Geary First Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. For many years, she was a Trustee of the Geary Public Library. She was a Certified Literacy Teacher, served three terms as President of the Blaine County Retired Educators Association, and served on the Board of the Watonga EYW Travel Club. She was also a member of the Chapter F, P.E.O., the Cloverleaf Club, and the Watonga Book Club. Ruth Bozarth Hankla and Myron L. Alexander were united in marriage April 2, 1994. They made their home in Largo, Florida. She enjoyed Myron's children: Kay Alexander Pravda (spouse, Charles), Jim Alexander (spouse, Sheryl), and Jan Alexander Kloiber (spouse, Chet.) After moving to Florida, she became a member of Seminole First Baptist Church and later St. Paul United Methodist Church. Additionally, for a number of years, she was an active member of Chapter BW, P.E.O., of Clearwater, Florida. Mrs. Alexander is survived by her loving husband, Myron L. Alexander, his children, and her children. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jennifer Tune Curtis (spouse, Charley), Megan Tune Ward (spouse, Glenn), Lauren Tune, Chelsea Tune, Ryan Hankla (spouse, Tiffany), six great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Curtis, Dalton Curtis, Logan Curtis, Ethan Curtis; Nicholas Ward and Glenn Ward; and four sisters: Nadine Marquis, Doris McLaughlin, Margret Walton, and Patricia Carroll. She was predeceased by her one brother, Jimmie Bozarth, and three sisters; Laverne Swafford, Anna Lee Grant, and Dorothy Clothier. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces. A public visitation, funeral services, and burial will be held in Geary, Oklahoma. Florida arrangements are provided by Moss Feaster Funeral Home Serenity Gardens Chapel in Largo, Florida. Geary, Oklahoma funeral arrangements are under the direction of Turner Funeral Home, 203 W. Main Street, Geary, Oklahoma, (405) 884-2222.
