Son of John Staples of Taunton, MA and Charity Caswell. Raised by his uncle, Ebenezer Caswell, Job was a sailor in the merchant trade for some years in Taunton. He married Joanna Richmond and moved to Reading, Windsor, Vermont about 1808.
