Civil War Union Soldier. He enrolled in the 6th New Jersey Volunteer Infanty on Augusy 7, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company F on August 26, 1861. He served with the 6th New Jersey through it's battles and campaigns, which included such engagements as Williamsburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and the Wilderness. He re-enlisted on February 18, 1864, and when a majority of the veterans enlistment expired in the Summer of 1864, he was transferred to the 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry along with the rest of the newer recruits and re-enlisting 6th NJ veterans. Assigned to Company E, he fought with the regiment through the conclusion of the conflict, and was honorably mustered out on July 29, 1865.
