John was the son of Edward Cable of England, and Sophia Kain of Pittsburgh, and a retired farmer. He and wife Charlotte Emery lived along Freeport Road in Blawnox. His death at St. Margaret Hospital was caused by shock and a cerebral hemorrhage from a laceration of the head. This was the result of being hit by a car near his home.
