The toddler son of Mangle Minthorne and his first wife, the former Sarah Cock, little Philip Minthorne died at the age of 22 months and 10 days. Born sometime between May 1763 and her mother's death a decade later, he lies interred with her in addition to two siblings who also died in infancy: 8-month-old Elizabeth, and Hannah, almost 3 months. (See inscription below.)
The widowed Mangle Minthorne later wed Aryet Constables, and a son and a daughter born of this second marriage were also called Phillip and Hannah, in accordance with the former practice of giving children the names of siblings who had predeceased them.
The tympanum of the brown sandstone stele which marks the graves of Sarah Minthorne and her three babes features a single soul effigy with a face reminiscent of an inverted lemon--the signature style of Manhattan carver John Zuricher.
