Charles Beale McClung was the son of Archibald McClung and Miss Beale. He married Mary J. P. Moffett on 11 Jun 1846. They had 7 known McClung children (details on wife's page).

On the 1850 Dist. 51, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer CHARLES B McClung, 29, with $3500 in real estate; Mary J McClung, 25 and John M McClung, 3, all Virginia born.

According to the WPA Virginia Historical Inventory Project, dated 30 Dec 1937 by James W McClung: On 19 Sep 1857, Charles B McClung purchased the former old Alexander McCorkle home, built in about 1782, of red brick, in the Flemish style. The former residence was made in 1750 of a 2 story log home by Alexander McCorkle. See the Rockbridge County WPA report #ROC-379 site for the old home of William McCorkle is online. It was located about 3 miles east of Lexington, on Route #60. Thence 1 mile north through privae road leading to the house. After McClung doed, it was passed into the courts, and at the May Term of Court, in 1875, John C Boude, was appointed as a Special Commissioner in Cause titled "Mary J McClung (wife of Charles B. McClung) vs Charles B McClung's heirs," and on Sep 27, 1875, Mary sold it to William White, but the deed was not made until Feb. 6, 1880.

On the 1860 Dist. 2, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer CHAS B McLary (sic), 39 with $12K in real estate; other McLarys: Mary J, 35; John M, 13; James T, 9; Mary C, 7; Chas B, 3 and Nancy Mackey, 21, all Virginia born.

His wife Mary has a gravestone both here 110059487 and in Florida 14576447. Suspect she was buried in Florida but it is not proven (seek proof).

It is suspected that he was injured in the battle in Gettysburg, PA which occured 1-3 Jul 1863 (seek more documentation). Obit not located in Virginia searched papers 1863 - 1865.

"I-6 Charles Beale McClung, b. about 1824; d. 1863, from a wound received at Gettysburg." The McClung Genealogy, by Rev. William McClung, Pittsburgh, PA, 1904, p 100 (? top of page cut off and not listed on photographed book pages)

"Mr. McClung, during the last years of the civil war, was a prominent soldier in the 11th Regiment of Cavalry, Rosser's Brigade, and dying in Lynchburg of sickness, was buried in the Lexington cemetey." Per the Lexington Gazette, Vol 91, #3, dated 17 Jan 1895 (see photo).
