On the 1880 Natural Bridge, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer J. Tate McClung, 28; wife Sallie H, 29; Daughters: Edna H., 6; Aurelia D, 4; Mary S, 2 and unnamed female McClung, 1 month, born in May, all Virginia born.

His VA State Death Record lists him as J. Tate McClung, born in about 1851 in Rockbridge Co., VA; husband of Sallie W., son of Chas McClung and Mary J., died in Buena Vista (this city is not listed on FaG), Rockbridge Co., VA on 4 Dec 1891, aged 40. Buena Vista City Death Register, pa 1, line 18, ending 31 Dec 1891

The 16 Dec 1891 issue of the Staunton Spectator., December 16, 1891 (on the right) and the original death register, line 18 state he died on the 4th (not the 2nd).

"Only the surname McClung, can be easily seen" on the marker, in the Sep 2013 photo. Cleaning may help.
