"Virgil S. Banes, 79, of 5015 N.E. 45th, died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Pirtle, 4519 N. Oakley. He was born in California [sic], Mo., and lived in this area 45 years. Mr. Banes was a sheet metal mechanic for the Trail Mobile Company before he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Kensington Avenue Baptist Church. He also leaves two sons, Stanley Banes of 3808 N. Spruce, and Leroy Banes of 3007 N.E. 56th Terrace; a sister, Miss Ethel Banes of Plattsburg, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Newcomer White Chapel; burial in White Chapel Cemetery." The Kansas City Times, June 10, 1975
