LEBANON — Hazel Leola Abels, age 99, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Otterbein Retirement Center in Lebanon, where she had been a resident for several years. She was born October 31, 1921 in Streator, Illinois, the daughter of James Albert and Carrie M. Adkins Abels. In addition to her parents, Leola was preceded in death by her sister: Alberta P. Moon; and brothers: Stanley B. Ables, R. Lowell Abels and Paul M. Abels. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Leola graduated from Yellow Springs High School in 1939. She had worked at Morris Bean Co.; the OSSO Home; the Xenia Foundry and the City of Xenia before retiring to Lebanon in 1991. She was also a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church and more recently a member of the Otterbein-Lebanon United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held privately at North Cemetery, Cedarville.
