Stanley B. Abels, 77, of Xenia, passed away Wednesday July 13th at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born April 30, 1934 in Jeffersonville, the son of James Albert and Carrie Mae (Atkins) Abels. Stanley had been a 1952 graduate of Cedarville High School, an accountant for Xenia Power Equipment, was a member of the Cedarville United Methodist Church and attended the Faith Community United Methodist Church. He was active with 4H and FFA Alumni of Greene County, member of the Cedarville Lions Club and a Masonic member, Cedarville Lodge and the Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Sweeney) Abels, two daughter Sherie (Kurt) Klontz and Jenny (Rick) Gullett, grandchildren Katie (Tim) Karwatske, Becky (Ryan) Barnard, Kara, Kalyn and Kyle Klontz, Zachary Gullett, great grandchildren, Hannah and Alex Karwatske, Matthew and Elijah Barnard, two sisters Leola Abels and Alberta (Leroy) Moon, several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lowell and Paul Abels and two grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Haller.
Funeral services will be held Monday July 18, 2011 at 1:00 PM at McColaugh Funeral Home Inc. 826 N. Detroit St. Xenia, Ohio with Timothy Holly officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday. Interment will follow the service at the Byron Cemetery in Bath Township near Fairborn. Memorial contributions in Stanley's honor may be made to the Greene County FFA Alumni c/o Robert King, 1242 US RT 68 South, Xenia, Ohio 45385, or to Hospice of Dayton 324 Wilmington Drive, Dayton, Ohio.
