Ambrose J. Smith, 81, of S. 15th Street, Columbia, died Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Lebanon Veterans Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret Splain Smith.

He had been employed by ITT-Grinnell Corp. before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. A member of Holy Trinity Church, Columbia, he also belonged to International Molders and Foundrymen's Union.

Born in Colunbia, he was a son of the late Simon and Christina Weber Smith.

He is survived by a son, Ambrose J. Smith, Jr. at home; one brother, Daniel Smith, Columbia, and a sister, Mrs. Rose Harvey, New Freedom.
