Arner died at 1:15 p.m. Friday in the Allentown hospital where he had been a patient since March 13. He was 76 years old.
The funeral will be held at the J. S. Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton St., with private interment in Greenwood cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 o'clock.
Mr. Arner resided at 915 Linden St. for the greater part of his life but for the last five years lived with his son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. George Shelly of Bethlehem R. 3.
An active churchman, he was an elder of Salem Evangelical and Reformed church up to the time of his death. He had taught the Men's Bible class there for many years, had been superintendent of the Sunday school, and held numerous other offices in the church.
He was also active in the Lehigh Synod of the church, serving as treasurer for that body for a number of years. At the meeting of Synod held a few weeks ago in Allentown he was again reelected to that office.
Mr. Arner had taken an active interest in the Layman's Movement that swept the country nearly 30 years ago. He did much to aid the movement, serving as one of the speakers who went about the country talking to various church groups to advance the missionary work.
Aside from his church activities, Mr. Arner was vice president of the Lehigh County Boy Scout council, a former president of the Arion Society and an active DeMolay worker. In 1940 he received the DeMolay Cross of Honor degree, given as the highest award for a member of the advisory council.
Surviving Mr. Arner are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph P. Merkle and Mrs. George Shelly, both of this city; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Ziegler, Chapmans, and three grandchildren; Anne Merkle, Nancy Shelly and Air Cadet George R. Shelly, stationed at Scott Field, Ill.
His wife, the former Alice Moyer, died three years ago.
