He was born on May 10, 1940, in Halley, Ark., to Anna and Leroy Coddington.
Mr. Coddington lived in Halley, Ark., until the age of 15 when he moved to Artesia. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Army. For part of his service, he was stationed in Germany where he completed his high school requirements and later attended college for four years.
After he was discharged from the Army in 1962, he returned to Artesia. He later returned to his native state of Arkansas.
On May 8, 1982, in Eudora, Ark., he was married to Vivian Smith. In 1985, they moved to Elida.
For a brief time, they returned to Arkansas, but came back to New Mexico in 1990 and have lived in Portales since then.
Mr. Coddington was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portales. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and repairing vehicles. He and his family enjoyed playing cards together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Chris Coddington of Clovis and Michael Coddington of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Tamara Leigh Coddington of Portales and D'Shawn England of Mustang, Okla.; two brothers, Larry Coddington of Albien, Okla., and William J. Simpson of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portales.
Bishop Larry Skelly will officiate.
Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
