Jane's parents came to Ontario from Aberdeenshire, Scotland probably in 1836. They settled on leased land in the village of Winterborne, Woolwich township in Wellington County.
The 1837 census shows their family with two adults and six children, three sons and three daughters.
Jane's father William was clearly a successful farmer, as at some point around 1848 they moved to a new farm in Winterborne, on the other side of the Grand River.
She married John McIntosh of Amabel township, on 24 Dec 1873 (her brother Andrew married John's sister Annie in 1870).
Between 1874 and 1880 they had four children, a son and three daughters.
