Raylene Penland Stamey, age 88, of the Jacks Creek Community, completed her journey on Monday, May 27th, 2013 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center in Spruce Pine. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Suda Wilson Penland and the wife of Buster Stamey, who passed away in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dwayne Penland. Raylene was a devoted member of Jacks Creek Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano for many years. She retired with the Yancey County Extension Office after 17 years of service.

She awaits the arrival of her family, two loving daughters: Beverly Ponder and husband, Earl, of Burnsville and Sharon Boyer and husband, Freddie, of Burnsville; sister, Edith Yelton and husband, Lee, of Williston, SC; three grandsons: Robbie Boyer of Burnsville, Scottie Laws and wife, Laura, of Burnsville and Tracy Boyer of Asheville; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Laws, Britney Laws and Austin Boyer.

Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Her pastor Pete Peterson and Rev. Jerry Shelton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family home will be open for visitors at 2223 Jacks Creek Road. A private family burial will be held in the Stamey Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, due to the recent flooding of her church, memorial donations may be made in Raylene's memory to Jacks Creek Presbyterian Church at P. O. Box 1073, Burnsville, NC 28714. The family wishes to say a very special thank you for the love and support given to Raylene by her caregivers.
