My great grandfather James Nolan was born in Mackeysburg ,PA. Early in his childhood he moved to Danville and later to Mt Carmel .He met Anna Flemming and they were married in 1881. He initially worked as a coal miner but after his brother-in -law died he left to work on the Trans-America railroad. When he returned he purchase an inn and a bar on what became known as Nolans hill . James was also a beer distributor . He was a sealer of weights and measures for Northumberland County . James was one of the Democratic political leaders of the county , a pioneer of the town and one of the best known men in it . He was known as a prominent and highly respected resident . He had the respect of everyone who knew him . He was a man of strong character and his life can be reflected in the fine family he had reared.
