A direct ancestor was Col. George Gillespie who was with George Washington at Yorktown and was a patriot against the Tories and Indians incited by the British. He gave shelter to refugee Whigs at his fort in Limestone, TN.
In 1904, at the age of twenty, Agnes married Wade H. Patton, and they honeymooned at the St. Louis World's Fair. She lived in Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey with her husband. They were the parents of seven children and grandparents of nine.
Agnes loved babies---especially her grandchildren. She was fond of "picture shows" and loved tending her flower gardens. She was a plain country cook, with an apple pie second to none!
She died in Mount Holly, N.J. in 1965. Three adult children and her husband preceded her in death.
