Paul Baker, 40, of La Vale, died suddenly at his home Saturday, June 20, 1959 after helping a neighbor lay some cement blocks.
Born June 24, 1918 at Petersburg, West Virginia, he was a son of Robert Welton Baker, Sr. and Cornelia Stevenson (Taylor) Baker, of Petersburg.
An engineer on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland; Brotherhood of Railway Engineers; a veteran of World War II, and a Navy Veteran with nine years of service. He was graduated from Petersburg High School with the class of 1937, and was a member of the Petersburg American Legion. He was a member of the Lodge 63, BPO Elks.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Aretta Sue (Swayne) Baker; two sons, Mark and Dana Paul Baker, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil O. Strickland, South Boston, Virginia, and Miss Cornelia Baker, Washington; four brothers, Lt. Colonel John B. Baker (USMC Retired) Bath, England; Robert W. Baker, Jr., Edward Baker and Donald J. Baker, all of Moorefield, West Virginia.
The body will be at the John J. Hafer Chapel of Hills Mortuary, Route 40 and Braddock Road, where services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Glenn O. Yount, pastor of the Petersburg Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Burial Park (Restlawn Memorial Gardens).
Pallbearers will be Dr. L. M. Hutson, David H. Trenton, George B. Moomau, William A. Wolfe, Eugene Moser, Paul C. Owens and William C. Cable.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Thompson, Ralph Thompson, Clement Clower, Wayne Yutzy, Blaine Schaeffer, Ralph Harman, Jesse Riggleman, Dr. John Trenton, David VanMeter, Lowell Alt, William Moomau, Lewis Moomau and Charles Coffman, George Wilson, Thomas Barton, and Edward Meecham.
