Mrs. Thos. Thornson.
Mrs. Malinda Thorson Hovda was born May 18, 1824, on the old homestead at Roseland [Riveland or Rogaland], Norway, and died near Leland June 28, 1907, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and ten days, being the youngest of 8 children, 4 brothers and 4 [5 including an infant] sisters. She was united in marriage to T. Thorson Hovda in 1841 [actually 1845] and the year following they emigrated to America, being ten weeks in making the voyage across the Atlantic. They settled in Mission township, La Salle county, remaining there for two years, afterwards moving to Leland, where they both lived until their death, her husband having passed away October 28, 1889. Mrs. Thornson leaves to mourn her sad departure three sons and four daughters, Mary, the wife of G. Jameson, having gone before. Those living are: Thomas, staying on the home farm near Leland, Richard, of Marshall county, Minn., John, of Leland, Isabelle, wife of John A. Olson, of Leland, Ellen, the wife of A. A. Bjelland, near Leland, Anna, wife of O. J. Tyler, of Jewell, Iowa, and Julia, the wife of Frank Gunderson, near Leland. The departed leaves seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She has always been a member of the Lutheran church and remained faithful to her Savior until her death.
The funeral took place from the Lutheran church last Sunday afternoon, interment in the cemetery south of town.
