Edith R. Arnett

Edith R. Arnett, 89, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Arnett was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Ed and Kate Cable Roark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Roark, Laura Roark, Bonnie Stevens and Virginia Simerly, and a brother, Lester Roark.

Mrs. Arnett was a faithful and active member of Oak Street Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class until her illness. She was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation.

Survivors include a daughter, Vivien A. Lewis of Elizabethton; a grandson and his wife, Dr. Bob Lewis Jr. and Carey Lewis of Blountville; a great-granddaughter, Marley Caroline Lewis of Blountville; a sister, Eva Simerly of Hampton; and a special loving friend, Bobby Scott of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Arnett will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, September 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Polk officiating. Music will be provided by Bill and Rita Fancher. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 30, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, will be Bobby Scott, Will Andrews, David Pinckard, Richard Arnett, Elwood Simerly, Vaughn Simerly Sr. and Velmer Rock. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Simerly, Adam Simerly, Vaughn Simerly Jr., Joey McNeil, Keith McNeil, David Humphrey, Gene Lewis, Jerry Smith and Ricky Reece. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to a special friend and doctor, Dr. Robert Allen, Nurses in ICU 2800, especially Alison, Renee and Donna, Dr. Fawwaz Hamati and Dr. Jessica Stanley, Cardiology Consultants of Johnson City, Dr. Keith and Dr. Jeff Farrow of Pulmonary Associates of East Tennessee and to the Gleaners Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Arnett to Oak Street Baptist Church, 804 Oak Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
