Brenda Balla, 44, of Alexandria, Va., and formerly Newport Township, passed away unexpectedly Friday at her home.
Born on Feb. 5, 1969, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of Nancy Holminski Balla of Glen Lyon and Arthur and Debra Evans Balla, Nanticoke.
She graduated from Nanticoke High School, Class of 1987.
After graduation, she moved to Northern Virginia where she began employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She became a legislative assistant with the National Propane Gas Association and later was a legislative and GASPAC specialist with the American Gas Association. Brenda was currently employment as a PAC and events administrator for Babcock and Wilcox, a government relations company in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church, Nanticoke.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Edmund and Elizabeth Humphrey Holminski, and paternal grandparents, George and Lydia Vajda Balla.
She was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by sisters, Deborah VanBalen and her husband, Paul VanBalen, Springfield, Va., and Robin Mahon and her husband, Dr. James Mahon, Sparta, N.J.; a niece, Ashley Mahon, and a nephew, Alexander Mahon.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at noon Saturday in St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church, 604 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke. The Rev. Debra North will officiate.
Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. John the Baptist Slovak Cemetery, Glen Lyon.
Arrangements are by Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, Nanticoke.
